Introduction to Food Pyramid
In order to attain a well-balanced diet, you can hire a nutritionist
or use the food pyramid instead which can be found even at the back of
the cheapest cereal box. Also known as the Improved American Food Guide
Pyramid, the food pyramid is considered as the best tool in creating a
well-balanced diet that can be used by those who are afflicted with
ailments (diabetes, heart-related problems, etc.) and those who just
want to eat a balanced meal. The pyramid is divided into different
groups. And as the group ascends the amount of food intake decreases.
Below is the picture of the typical food pyramid that is commonly found
in most products in the grocery stores today.

The food pyramid is actually made up of six groups. The group located
at the most bottom part is the Grain group. Next are the Vegetable and
the Fruit groups. Tied at the third part of the pyramid are the Dairy
and the Meat groups. The group at the uppermost part of the pyramid is
made up of sweets, fats, and oils.
However, a new food pyramid was published by the United States
Department of Agriculture in 2005. All of the food groups are the same.
They just omitted the group made up of oils and fats since the USDA no
longer considered it as an essential part of the food pyramid although
there is still a small line that represents the oils and the fats. As of
the moment, there are only a few products printing the so-called
MyPyramid at the back of their labels. But the USDA is expecting that
everybody will be using the new food pyramid by 2010.
